The encouragement of stoking the audience up really went over the top and it boiled over as liberal amounts of alcohol were consumed as the day wore on. Shaun Murphy really got the worst of it as shouts of "You Fat Bastard" were made as Shaun prepared on the shot. This just isnt on, players deserve more respect and Shaun shouldnt have to put up with it.
The use of two women referees probably did not help as it need clearer boundaries of what was acceptable and what is not. Michaela Tabb and Patricia Murphy did not make any comment or give direction to the crowd as a spit and sawdust approach to the game was the order of the day.
The players seemed to go along with it but I suspect they have some concerns. They dont shot out at darts when the players are on the Oche.Come on Barry step in, best of order please!
The games themselves seemed unpredictable to the point with the commentators caught out by the addition of bonuses and potential quadruple points.
The repeated call of "POWERZONE" every shot about 10 times running just seemed ridiculous and embarrassing to the referees.
The choice of players for invitation was interesting, perhaps Mark Williams should have been included as fast and flexible player.
Whilst everyone is entertained by Ronnie O'Sullivan, the game seems to have been designed right up his street with instant prize money to suit his personal motivation. Another request can we go back to the standard green baize with a reasonable nap. We can see better then as ITV have not the experience of SKY and the BBC. The camera failed to capture with any clear definition Ronnies foul break off shot.
So lets wait for the next installment.
